Probably one of the best concert happenings in the next while, if you're interested in modern music.

One of the leading contemporary ensembles playing some of the most interesting music at the moment, you can't really go wrong with that: "The concert celebrates a twenty-year performance history between Richard Barrett and ELISION and includes works by James Dillon, Roger Redgate and Aaron Cassidy. Virtuoso musicians Graeme Jennings (violin), Richard Haynes (clarinets), Peter Veale (oboe), and Séverine Ballon ('cello) present unique performance practices at the cutting edge."

This is something I've been looking forward to for a while, Sarah Nicolls on her new invention: the newly invented 'piano'.I must admit I don't know much about Tim Exile, but what I've heard is good, like most things WARP endorses, somehow his solo material seems to mix of quite mainstream electronic dance music, noise, and obscurity with a kind of 'Depech Mode' bleakness. Jason Yarde, on the other hand seems more in the vain of Rashid Roland Kirk, or even Coltrane, but more straight than either (at least what I can find), reminds me a bit of Jazz Jamaica, without the extensive instrumentation. But with this mixture I think it'll be a very interesting evening, and it's FREE!

The Nightshift is a fantastic opportunity to see classical music with no rules, This means drinking wine, beer or soft drinks in the QEH, talking in between the music and a very relaxed atmosphere where you are no afraid to cough, sneeze, or laugh!

I have been attending the the Nightshift over the last couple of years and seen the fan base grow from a couple of hundred to nearing a thousand at the last event. The music is world class, and there is a discussion with the musicians and conductor half way through the performance which is enjoyable and enlightening. As a entry into the world of classical music it is second to none and even if you are an avid classical music fan you will find the atmosphere somewhat of a pleasant change.
